The rain on July 8th was meant for this session <3
After scoping out the beautiful paths of Lake Accotink, I sat in my car excited to meet the mama-to-be that had agreed to a styled maternity session with me. From one creative to another, I was beyond grateful that she trusted me to not only style her beautifully, but take pictures of her at 38 weeks pregnant. As all moms know, by 38 weeks, you are feeling less than picture perfect, and yet she still showed up. Calm, stunningly beautiful, and on the exact same creative level as myself.
The rain had been heavy, so the loose curls she so intentionally created, were long gone. What was left was an incredible natural beauty who fit perfectly into the burnt gold dress I had picked out for her. She was down to stick to our plan to shoot by the water, come rain or shine, so we turned on Odesza and headed for the forest trails.
As we began to shoot, the sky opened up for us and the heavy rain turned to a light drizzle. The crowds had left, and we had the river banks to ourselves. To laugh, to dance, to get to know each other, and to celebrate her incredible journey of becoming a mom.
After finding out that Rachel had not had a maternity session of her own, and that pictures of her pregnancy were few and far between, it became my mission to capture images that conveyed the deep love for the little girl she's carrying. Her effortlessness, movements, and serenity amongst the misty backdrop of the water was more than I could have ever asked for. I can only hope that I captured the love I know she holds so deeply.
